Spiral Shell Handbuilding Workshop at Intuitive Touch
This workshop will take place on Friday, July 28th from 7:30 to 9 PM at Intuitive Touch in Belmar!
Intuitive Touch is my dear friend Kayla’s space — she has gathered an incredible team of healers here to support the body, mind, and spirit through massage, infrared sauna treatments, reflexology, cupping, reiki + more. Art therapy in the same building just makes sense.
Demo of how to handbuild a spiral shell
1 lb of clay
needle tool, sponge, slip, and additional tools to use throughout the duration of class
your piece processed, fired, and glazed in gloss white
In this workshop we’ll form a spiral shell sculpture to be used as an incense vessel or as a talisman of good luck. I am constantly amazed by nature’s genius but especially the design of a shell.
These workshops are open concept in order to facilitate free expression. Please feel free to follow the demo or veer off the path - I am just happy to get clay in your hands! The class begins with a short demo of how to form a basic shell shape. The majority of class is left for you - to experiment, explore, and bring your vision to life.
All levels are welcome and encouraged. We’ll discuss how to execute any ideas you may have for your piece the night of the workshop!
Pieces may not exceed 2 inches tall in height. Ages 21-up
Turnaround time for student work is 3-4 weeks minimum. This is to give the pieces ample drying time. Due to the nature of clay itself, cracks may appear on your piece if there was not enough compression or cross-hatching applied. Tickets are non-refundable.
